Falmouth Classics 2025: Sailing Success Strikes Again!
Falmouth continues to shine as a beacon of maritime heritage and sailing passion in 2025. Building on a legacy that dates back to 1987, this charming coastal town once again plays host to the UK’s premier classic sailing event the Falmouth Classics. Over three spectacular days, sailors, spectators, and the local community come together to celebrate not just thrilling races and vibrant parades, but also the timeless spirit of nautical tradition and camaraderie. This year’s regatta promises new excitement and unforgettable moments, reinforcing Falmouth’s place at the heart of the classic sailing world.
Arrival and Welcome
The event kicked off on Thursday, June 12th, as the fleet of elegant classic boats began arriving in Falmouth Harbour. Participants collected their welcome packs, generously provided by Ben Harris Traditional Boats, at the race reception based in The Windjammer. The evening saw the popular “Pints and Pasties” welcome event on the pontoons, supported by Dynamite Brewery. This informal gathering allowed sailors to mingle, share stories, and enjoy live entertainment from a traditional shanty group, setting the tone for the weekend ahead.
Racing Begins
Friday’s racing kicked off within Falmouth Harbour, featuring two challenging races held between 11:00 and 15:00. Despite a drenching rain, shifting wind directions in the afternoon, and a flooding tide that reduced wind strength, approximately 90 participants praised the thoughtfully designed courses set by the new Chief Racing Officer, Nigel Sharp.
Meanwhile, the maritime village at Custom House Quay was alive with activity, featuring an array of stalls including Traditional Boat Supplies, which displayed a variety of practical marine products. This bustling hub gave participants and visitors a chance to explore sailing gear and engage with local vendors.

Teamac Race and Main Event
Saturday marked the highlight of the regatta with the headline Teamac Race held within Falmouth Harbour at Carrick Roads. Improved weather conditions attracted over 100 vessels and a large crowd of spectators both afloat and onshore. The Falmouth Classics Racing committee, aboard the committee vessel Maffick, managed the race course layout and start sequence with precision. After the races, results were compiled ahead of the prize presentation that evening at the Royal Cornwall Yacht Club. The award ceremony was a lively celebration featuring not only the winners’ recognition but also friendly rowing and sculling races off the yacht club’s landing. Teamac, as proud race sponsor, presented medals and prize vouchers to category winners, who expressed great appreciation for the support.

Final Day and Parade of Sail
Sunday shifted from racing to celebration with a spectacular Parade of Sail featuring over 175 vessels, led by Royal Navy and RNLI lifeboats. VIP guests judged the fleet for final awards before a luncheon at the harbour. The event concluded with a grand ceremony at the Falmouth National Maritime Museum, where sponsors, organizers, and competitors were thanked for their contributions to one of the largest classic sailing events in recent years.
Looking Ahead
With wide media coverage and strong attendance, Falmouth Classics 2025 reinforced its status as a premier event celebrating maritime heritage and a passion for sailing. Over the weekend, Falmouth welcomed around 65,000 visitors, including those attending both Falmouth Classics and the Sea Shanty Festival.
